Striped bonito is found in temperate and tropical regions of the Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean. Striped bonito lives in waters between 1 and 30 meters. It swims fast, moves agilely, and has a ferocious temperament. The optimum water temperature is 13.5 to 23°C. Carnivorous, mainly small fish.

The fish has thin scales, blue-green back, with several almost parallel dark blue vertical stripes, two rows of black spots behind and below the pectoral fins, and silver-white belly. The caudal fin is deeply forked.
