hippurus is diurnal and voracious. It often hunts surface fish such as flying fish and sardines, and sometimes jumps out of the water to prey. It is the companion fish of tuna and swordfish. hippurus can grow up to about two meters, and they often like to cruise in groups on the surface of clear and vast sea water, which also makes it easy for hippurus with bright body colors to expose itself. During the long period of natural selection, hippurus evolved the ability to use the environment to hide and avoid bodies, and relied on the high-speed swimming hunting method to survive.

The bait-migrating hippurus likes to go out in groups to chase their prey in sunny weather. They also have the habit of hiding under floating debris, such as large sheets of sargassum, floating banana leaves, or under boats. But because of this, hippurus, which is active near ships, is often captured by sailors using simple hooks, primitive harpoons or fishing nets.
Fishermen used to call hippurus "shade fish", and it also had the nickname "underwater fox". General pelagic fishes in the ocean like to show their faces. They swim in clusters for a while, and jump and splash the waves for a while. However, hippurus, an upper-floor fish, is different. They always swim silently in the water, or hide quietly under the floating objects on the sea surface. The swimming speed is very fast, generally up to 30-50 kilometers per hour. Therefore, once hippurus shows up, other aquarium species have to stay away.
Hippurus likes to hide under floating objects. At first, fishermen thought that it hated sunlight and liked to live in shaded places, so it was named "shady fish". Later, people finally discovered that when these tropical and subtropical fish species migrate to the coast of China, they usually appear in large groups in midsummer, the hotter the sun is, and they all float away when the clouds are falling or the rain is pouring. The object is withdrawn and dives deep into the bottom of the sea.
hippurus prefers to prey on small fish such as flying fish, mackerel or sardines. Hunting these small fish is not an easy task, and they can rely on huge schools of fish to swim together to resist predators. hippurus had to evolve to be the fastest-swimming fish in the ocean.
