How Illex squid is farmed
Illex squid generally live in groups. Like most species in the animal kingdom, Illex squid is a matrilineal society. During the spring and summer mating and spawning periods, two or three larger female squids take the lead in collective mating. All Illex squid are happy at night, so when coastal fishermen catch them, they use steam lights to lure them to the surface, and then use nets to quickly block the escape direction from behind and catch them. The surface layer of a live Illex squid's skin has a large number of pigmented "bubbles" that change in response to mood changes.
Illex squid is a rare seafood. The characteristics that make Illex squid change sex are used to artificially control the sex of Illex squid seedlings. From hatching to 10 months old, male Illex squid can weigh up to 700 grams, while females only have 300-400 grams. Most of the Illex squid became male, which greatly increased the yield of Illex squid.
The main method is to mix the male hormone of Illex squid with the Illex squid eggs 3 weeks before hatching (that is, mix the fertilized eggs and male hormones that have not yet expressed sexual characteristics for incubation), and the hatched small Illex squid, the male can reach 75%.
Some artificially raised Illex squid can grow very large, and the meat is tender and delicious.
