The body of decapterus kurroides is oblong and slightly laterally compressed. The head is short and the snout is pointed. The fatty eyelids are well developed, leaving only a long slit in the middle of the eye. The upper jaw is a very narrow tooth band, the lower jaw is a row of fine teeth; the hoe bone is a sagittal tooth band; the palatine bone and the lingual surface are an elongated tooth band. The lower corner of the shoulder girdle has a shallow depression with two small papillae above it. The number of gill rakers on lower branches (including tumor-like gill rakers) is 28-30. The dorsal anterior scale extends above the anterior edge of the eye. The straight part of the lateral line starts below the 12th-13th rays of the second dorsal fin, all of which are ridge scales. Thorax completely scaly. The second dorsal fin is the same shape as the anal fin, the front fin rays are crescent-shaped, and the rear has a detached fin; the pectoral fin is long, and the end only extends behind the origin of the second dorsal fin. The body is blue-green on the back, and the abdomen is silver-white. The anterior fin rays of the dorsal fin are sometimes darker; the caudal fin is red; the remaining fins are pale. The habitat ecology of decapterus kurroides often gathers in groups to cruise in the middle water, sometimes reaching depths of 300 meters. Mainly live by filter feeding zooplankton.
